Birkhouse Moor | 718m
Seen from Glenridding, Birkhouse Moor looks like little more than a grassy mound. To a degree this is true and most hikers will zoom past the fell as they make a beeline for Helvellyn and Catstycam. The summit is easily tagged on to a day heading up to these fells with little additional effort. The views here are impressive, especially in relation to Ullswater. It is also from the summit that you gain a great perspective of Catstycam’s cone-shaped nature. Viewed from Sheffield Pike or Glenridding Birkhouse Moor looks most impressive, given the steepness of its north face. There is a path that leads up this north face, which is often quiet as it avoids the crowds heading up to Helvellyn, but it is little more than a grassy sheep-trod due to this.
