What a great city. The capital of Slovenia that feels modern, welcoming, and stunningly pretty, that has plenty to do and see in the summer months. For my part, Ljubljana is a great place to spend a few days before heading out to the Julian Alps of western Slovenia in Triglav National Park or heading up to the Austrian Alps to the north. As the first country to formally leave Yugoslavia in 1991, Slovenia is a proudly independent Balkan state and the pace of change here in Ljubljana is certainly more pronounced that in other towns across the country that retain a greater sense of Yugoslav history. Yet the historical remains here on the old cobbled streets, impressive bridges, and medieval buildings of Ljubljana.
